Avaition Word of the Day : Cargo/Freight

The term cargo refers to anything other than the passengers and their baggage, the flight crew or mail which is transported from one destination to the other in the aircraft. It could be books, poultry, live animals, equipment, ammunition, medical supplies, human remains, electrical appliances, and the list is endless. Another name for cargo is freight.

Cargo can be classified into various types but we’ll leave that for a latter time. Although cargo can be loaded in the entire aircraft, known as Cargo aircraft or freighter aircraft, Passenger aircrafts are designed to carry cargo as well. The cargo (goods) is usually loaded into the belly of the aircraft also known as the lower deck. Over here, there aren’t any passengers; this area is meant solely to accommodate cargo.Cargo constitutes a major portion of airlines’ revenue. That is to say that, airlines generate a lot money whenever they ship cargo.
