Former South African Airforce Pilot dies while battling fire
Willem Hendrik,former SAAF pilot and pilot for Poverty Relief Programme based in South Africa has died in an uneventful accident.He was affectionately known as "Bees" Marais.Reports indicated that he attempted a forced landing while piloting a Bell 212 Huey near Olifantsbos in the Table Mountain National Park on Sunday,March 08,2015 around Midday.
Marais,amongst several others was known to be a freelance flyer and former South African Airforce (SAAF) Pilot.He was also a pilot for Air Mercy Service,a non-profit organisation that assists with emergency air ambulances and rural outreaches concerning health across the country.
Reports further indicated that Marais worked tirelessly during the past week in his attempt to battle the blaze that erupted last Sunday.He attached a 1000litre bambi bucket to the chopper while scooping and dropping water to quench the flames.Marias left behind a wife as well as children.
