Aviation Word Of The Day - Airworthy
Airworthy is defined as meeting the standards of a national certifying authority with regards to whether the aircraft is fit to fly or not.
It's all about ensuring that the aircraft is safe to fly.
Airworthy planely means "worthy to fly". Before any aircraft is flown, pre-flight checks are carried out by the pilots to make sure that the aircraft is 'airworthy'.
If the aircraft conforms to it's type design and is in the condition for safe operation, the national certifying authourity issues the 'Airworthiness Certificate'.
Therefore an 'Airworthiness Certificate' grants authorisation to operate an aircraft.
The state in which the aircraft was registered handles that.
eg.The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority if the aircraft was registered in Ghana.
Or Federal Aviation Administration in the case of U.S.A.
