Aviation Word Of The Day - Crab

It's such a pleasure to know that we've made huge progress over the past week.A quick recap of what we've looked at so far,We were able to establish that Drift is the extent to which an aircraft is driven off its course by winds. We also looked at heading, where we said it is the direction in which the aircraft is pointed.Another term was track, the actual path the aircraft travels over the ground.(Read more in previous lessons)

Crabing is one of the very necessary or crucial,if I should put it skills every pilot needs to master. It is basically a flight maneuver where the aircraft is turned into the wind in order to land safely.
Crabbing is done whenever there's a crosswind pushing against the aircraft in an undesirable motion. It is done to compensate for drift. Here's how it works. The wind is coming at th. aircraft from an angle so the track and course will definitely deviate. In order to maintain the aircraft on the desired course, the aircraft must be turned into the direction of the wind. Crabbing can be done by skillfully pointing the nose slightly into the wind.
