A taxiway is a prepared concrete or asphalt surface for manouvering the aircraft while on the ground. Another name for taxiway is peritrack(used very rarely).
The main function of taxiways is to provide access for aircraft to travel to and from the runways to other areas of the airport..
Taxiways basically connect the runway to the tamp/apron because it is the surface on which the transfer is made from the ramp to the runway and vice versa.
When an aircraft is moving on the taxiway, the process is termed "taxiing".Therefore aircrafts taxi on taxiways.
There are various types of taxiways including:
1 Parallel taxiways
2 Entrance taxiways
3 Exit taxiways
4 Bypass Taxiways
