Turkish Airline's B737-800 Aicraft Collides with birds while landing at Nevsehir
The internal Turkish flight flying from Istanbul to Nevsehir safely landed but not before a collision with a bird saw its front pushed inwards
A Turkish Airlines flight was making its descent to land when a bird struck its front and caused its nose cone to collapse.
Fortunately for the 125 passengers on board, the plane landed safely at Nevsehir after it had made its way from Istanbul on Tuesday.
Pictures published after showed the nose cone was splattered with blood and the Boeing 737-800 was taken in for maintenance.
A Turkish Airlines spokesman told MailOnline Travel sought to reassure flyers by saying birds hitting the nose area of a plane was "common".
"The damage of the nose area (radome) by bird hit is a common incident on civil aeronautical operations.
"The radome area of a plane is constructed by soft materials (composit) to minimalize the impact of such hits.
"Therefore, such standard/normal deformation occurs as a natural result of such incidents.
"One can also state that the critical bird hits in aviation is the ones that occur on the engine area. Any other area of the aircraft than the engine area, such as radome, wings, hull, do not pose a risk when hit by a bird.'
