Tourist Sites in Africa That Will Put Your Dream Destinations To Shame

What is it about the African continent? This continent can boast of many attractive sites worth dying for. From beautiful shores of beaches to crowded market scenes to traditional indigenous houses to spectacular wildlife parks to breathtaking mountain views, you're definately missing a lot if Africa doesn't make it on your travel itinerary.Unless you're looking for something mediocre,or simply a little less than an unforgettable experience.I carefully collated a list of interesting, yet underrated tourist sites which I believe you would love.Do make it a point, whenever you get the time and resources to visit these amazing sites because you sure won't regret it.

AFAJATO - GHANA

Hailed as the heart of Africa,I believe Ghana deserves a spot on the list. This site is Originally named "Afaja",and "to" which means mountain in the Ewe dialect. In other words the mountain is referred to as Afajato or mount Afaja.Afajato is the highest peak located in Gbledi,a village 24km from Hohoe in Ghana. The top of the mountain reaches approximately as high as 885 metres above sea level and stretches along the Ghana-Togo border. The mountain is home to over 300 species of butterflies and about 33 species of mammals which include antelopes. That's not all.The mountain is surrounded by a thick tropical forest, communities, other mountains and of course, the popular Lake Volta.Friendly Mona and spot-nosed monkeys are always ready to welcome visitors.A courageous attempt to climb the mountain can be quite a challenging experience,as I myself have experienced.Vistors to Afajato will also have the opportunity to meet the locals, participate in their games and culturak dances,as well as patronize some  handicrafts made by the people.Who's ready for some  mountain climbing?

DJENNE - MALI
Djenne is situated on an island in the Niger River delta, and was founded somewhere around early 800AD.Djenne used to be a hub,a very popular one at that, for traders who used to move their wares on and off, between forests in Guinea and the Sahara desert. It is known to be one of sub-saharan Africa's oldest cities.Similar to the Larabanga Mosque in the Northern part of Ghana, the Grand Mosque of Djenne still remains the most dominated and most popular site in that region. It is built solely with mud and has  wooden sticks chucked in on the sides to give it some balance and a finishing look.Timbuktu isn't far from Djenne.Oh and yes,the best time to visit Djenne would be the end of the rainy season, when the city becomes an island.Usualky,Mondays are market days in Djenne and it's quite an interesting site to see thousands of busy traders shouting and marketing their goods during this time.A little chatter wouldn't hurt your ears, would it?

PYRAMIDS OF GIZA - EGYPT
The enchanting pyramids of Giza are just outside the    capital of Egypt;Cairo. It still remains one of the worlds oldest tourist attractions, built more than 5000 years ago.The pyramids of Giza is the last surviving member of the popular Seven Wonders of the world. It is made up of three pyramids named
•The great pyramid of Khufu (Cheops)
•The pyramid of Kafhre
•The pyramid of Menkaura

The pyramid of Menkaura is the smallest pyramid amongst the three. There are Sphinxes in front of each of the pyramids .These sphinxes are known as "Abu al-Hol" in Arabic meaning father of terror. It is also intersting to note that each pyramid contains the tomb of an Egyptian king.I think it would be great to visit the pyramids of Gaza,if you're on the look out for some adventure and of course, some historical enlightenment.

SOLIO RESERVE - KENYA
The Solio Reserve or Ranch is one of the finest wildlife parks in Africa, which hasn't made it on the tourist map for several years. That's quite unfortunate, owing to the fact that this site is spectacular! Located in the valley between the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare mountains,Solio Reserve contributes immensely in the protection and breeding of white rhinos, and nearly a hundred black rhinos in Kenya. In addition to the world's largest population of white rhinos,Solio Reserve inhabits other wildlife creatures like buffalos, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, orynx, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, leopards and cheetahs. The Reserve is also the best place for bird watching. The Ranch surrounds an acacia forest which draws more than 300 species of birds.I wouldn't end if I decide to enlist all of them.A few birds to spot include flycatchers, vultures, eagle owls, long -crested eagles, among others.Where else would you like to be?

KOUTAMMAKOU - TOGO
Koutammakou is one of the classic spots for sightseeing in the country and it can be found in the northeastern part of Togo. The boundaries of Koutammakou move into adjacent Benin and is inhabited by the locals known as Battammariba. These people build spectacular mud houses in different shapes including towers known in the local dialect as "takeita".The Battammaribas of Koutammakou are poplular their exotic lifestyle and culture. The structural patterns of the buildings represent how much these people cherish and love nature. Some of their buildings are constructed with flat, conical or thatched roofs. It is simply breathtaking as the landscape in addition to the people synchronize with the rich beliefs and rituals of the Togolese heritage.
